Our friends Colin and Jenny and their son and newborn baby daughter, invited us to share their cooperative harvest at Canton's Bradley Estate this morning. After selecting from a broad range of produce from this week's harvest we where all encouraged to gather as many tomatoes as we could carry since the rains from Hurricane Irene would wipe out any of the remaining crop.
The Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate's grounds are part of The Trustees of Reservations and open free to the public. Comprised of formal gardens, a rhododendron walk, pastures and chicken coop, there is also a wonderful cutting garden. After collecting a bounty of beets, peppers, eggplant, leeks and tomatoes we all wandered through out the grounds and I was reminded of life's cycle and it's fragility as we all take shelter from the impending hurricane.
Stay safe everyone.
